Updated Dec 18, 2023

What is Infoproviders?

Infoproviders serve as data storage objects within the SAP BW system. They store data physically or virtually, providing access for reporting purposes.

Types of Infoproviders:

  • Characteristic Info Objects: Contain master data such as material, plant, and product.
  • Data Store Objects (DSOs): Store transaction data on a detailed level.
  • Info Cubes: Store aggregated transaction data using a star schema with multiple dimensions.
  • Multi Providers: Virtual providers offering a consolidated view of data from several Infoproviders.

New Infoproviders for BW powered by HANA:

  • Advanced Data Store Objects (ADSO): Correspond to former Infocubes and DSOs.
  • Composite Providers: Correspond to Multi Providers.

  • Key Figures: Represent measurable values like revenue.
  • Units: Represent units of measurement such as currency and amount.
